Where did the phrase even come from? Maybe it's just because I'm in Texas, but any activity done outdoors for the majority of the day does not result in 100% of happiness. I do enjoy the activity and look forward to the next trip, but when I think about being sticky and hot, sitting motionless in my camp chair praying desperately for just a small breeze, happiness is the last thing on my mind.
I would say that the phrase refers to children, but even my kiddos, who love the outdoors, reach their limit after a while. Overall, when I think back over our trip, I recall fond memories of enjoyment and fun, but I would never say we were happy campers. Perhaps we should change the phrase. Any suggestions? Happy home stayers, maybe?
Have a cool summer and happy camping!
