For the wondrous season of fall, I wanted to talk about leaves. They turn a beautiful shade of orange, yellow or brown then leave the tree. Yes, I just said the leaves leave the tree. Is that where they got their name?
It's kind of funny actually. I can just see someone sitting under the shade of the tree, watching the leaves fall. Hmm, these flaky things keep leaving the tree, so I'll call them leaves. You never know, it could've happened. After all, someone named them.
Every year the tree knows what's coming. After growing and supporting these leaves, the fall comes and takes them all away. Then the tree must raise new ones who, like their brothers and sisters, will grow and leave as well.
I suppose the leaves are like children in a way. As parents, we raise and support our children all year long. Then the fall brings in a new school year and takes them away from us. Unlike the tree, we are lucky enough to have them returned at the end of each day, but the analogy still stands.
So, I will leave you now as you further contemplate the mystery of leaves. Have a wonderful fall!
