With Labor Day upon us, I continually wonder the reasoning behind the name. The day itself is to honor the laborers, but why call it Labor Day when the idea behind the holiday is to celebrate, and give a day off, to people who labor. It should have been named Non-Labor Day.
Hearing the term 'labor' reminds me of those three wonderful days when my children were born. Thinking back, I truly feel the term 'labor' is applicable. Since everyone else receives a day off of labor, I feel that pregnant women should also benefit from those rules. Wouldn't that be great? In honor of Labor Day, no woman would experience labor pains. They can sit around enjoying a pleasant conversation with the doctor, then poof, the baby is born. If it worked that way, I imagine we would have to rename the day nine months prior to labor day as well... but that's for another post.
I wish everyone an enjoyable Labor Day, filled with no work or labor pains!
