The cards are such a part of who Greyson is, that I can't thank my cover artist enough for procuring a picture of them for the cover. Overall, I'm quite pleased.
What do you think? Do you like it as much as me? Please let me know. I'd love to hear.
With Thanksgiving around the corner, I like to reflect on the past year. So much has happened with my writing career, that I have a great deal of things to be thankful for. Leaf me alone

For the wondrous season of fall, I wanted to talk about leaves. They turn a beautiful shade of orange, yellow or brown then leave the tree. Yes, I just said the leaves leave the tree. Is that where they got their name?
It's kind of funny actually. I can just see someone sitting under the shade of the tree, watching the leaves fall. Hmm, these flaky things keep leaving the tree, so I'll call them leaves. You never know, it could've happened. After all, someone named them.
Every year the tree knows what's coming. After growing and supporting these leaves, the fall comes and takes them all away. Then the tree must raise new ones who, like their brothers and sisters, will grow and leave as well.
I suppose the leaves are like children in a way. As parents, we raise and support our children all year long. Then the fall brings in a new school year and takes them away from us. Unlike the tree, we are lucky enough to have them returned at the end of each day, but the analogy still stands.
So, I will leave you now as you further contemplate the mystery of leaves. Have a wonderful fall!

A Day of Labor... or Not

9/1/2013

With Labor Day upon us, I continually wonder the reasoning behind the name. The day itself is to honor the laborers, but why call it Labor Day when the idea behind the holiday is to celebrate, and give a day off, to people who labor. It should have been named Non-Labor Day.
Hearing the term 'labor' reminds me of those three wonderful days when my children were born. Thinking back, I truly feel the term 'labor' is applicable. Since everyone else receives a day off of labor, I feel that pregnant women should also benefit from those rules. Wouldn't that be great? In honor of Labor Day, no woman would experience labor pains. They can sit around enjoying a pleasant conversation with the doctor, then poof, the baby is born. If it worked that way, I imagine we would have to rename the day nine months prior to labor day as well... but that's for another post.
I wish everyone an enjoyable Labor Day, filled with no work or labor pains!

Meet the Author/ Character Interview Blog Hop

Thank you for joining me today for the Meet the Author/ Interview with a Character Blog Hop.
I'd like to start by telling you a little bit about myself. I've been actively writing since 2008, but before then I wrote many unfinished novels. The discarded manuscripts were all contemporary romances. I loved historical romances, and read more of those than anything else, but for some reason I felt I should begin with contemporary. After my second child was born, I got that writing feeling again and decided to write what I loved- historical romances.
I wrote more than I ever had before and finished 90,000 words in three months. That was when I realized I had found my genre. After that, I quickly began a second manuscript and followed it with His Perfect Bride. This book concept began with the idea of having a more modern thinking woman in the 1800s. The first scene that came to me, and inspired the book, was when Brianna met Richard on the terrace.
Today I have an interview with Brianna to share with you. Keep in mind that this interview was recorded after her first meeting with Richard, the hero of the His Perfect Bride.

JENN: Hello, Lady Brianna, thanks for coming in today.

BRIANNA: I’m honored with the opportunity to speak with you.

JENN: I understand you are taking part in your first season in London. Are you having a good time?

BRIANNA: Certainly. The parties are quite enjoyable, and I have met a great amount of interesting people.

JENN: Anyone stand out above the rest? A man perhaps?

BRIANNA: Well, there was one gentleman.

JENN: Judging by your bright red face, he must be something. Tell me about him. What does he look like?

BRIANNA: He is something to behold. Hair the color of molten chocolate, and eyes so blue the sky is put to shame. His face was perfectly chiseled by a master. Combined with broad shoulders and a solid muscular body, I can't imagine there is a woman alive who could resist him.

JENN: Do you think he's the one for you?

BRIANNA: I'm not sure at this point. We've only just met, but when we touched, it felt like lightning striking me. Every inch of my body sizzled and burned, leaving me wanting for more. When we kissed I... Well, I have never experienced such a feeling before.

JENN: Wait a minute. You kissed him? I thought you said you just met.

BRIANNA: It was necessary. I very well couldn't have allowed him to speak, we would have been overheard, so I did what I had to. And I must say, I don't regret it for a moment.

JENN: Do you think you'll be sharing more kisses?

BRIANNA: I can't be sure, but I do hope to see him again. I would like the opportunity to determine if he would be a suitable match for me.

JENN: We only have time for one last question. How would you describe the man of your dreams?

BRIANNA: I would like a gentleman who presents himself well. One who doesn’t need to fill silences with his own voice. And, most importantly, he must be willing to submit to my every whim. Oh, and I must add one more item, looking like Mr. Richard would only further compliment his other attributes.

Thank you for joining me and Lady Brianna today. I hope you enjoyed an insight into her life. If you’d like to find out more about her, check out His Perfect Bride, available on Amazon.
Don’t forget to check out the other authors on the blog hop for a chance to become better acquainted with them and their characters. Also, you can enter below for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card just mention the codeword: Bride. Happy reading!

Give some seasoning to your seasons

8/1/2013

The change of season is something I look forward to. Each one has advantages as well as disadvantages. By the end of the season, I am outweighed by the disadvantages, and ready to start the next one. However, from what I've heard, most people feel the opposite. Sitting in the summer, you've accustomed yourself with the disadvantages, and they don't seem so bad compared to the horrors of the next season.
So, I implore you, put a little seasoning in your season. Worried about windstorms in the fall? A little butter on, well anything, will weigh you down, allowing the wind to propel you forward, not carry you away. Not looking forward to the biting cold in winter? No problem, season your hot chocolate with some cayenne pepper to spice, and heat, you up. Disappointed with the possibility of a rainy spring? Sprinkle salt on your watermelon to dry your mouth and give you a taste for the rain. Terrified of the hot summer? A little sugar on a lemon will offer a bright treat in the heat.
The change will come, so add a little seasoning and enjoy!

Happy Camper?

Ah, camping, one of my favorite things to do. When my family packs up and heads out to the wilderness, we have a lot of fun. However, camping can be hot, stressful and a lot of work. When we went camping last week, I think 'happy campers' would be the last way to describe us.
Where did the phrase even come from? Maybe it's just because I'm in Texas, but any activity done outdoors for the majority of the day does not result in 100% of happiness. I do enjoy the activity and look forward to the next trip, but when I think about being sticky and hot, sitting motionless in my camp chair praying desperately for just a small breeze, happiness is the last thing on my mind.
I would say that the phrase refers to children, but even my kiddos, who love the outdoors, reach their limit after a while. Overall, when I think back over our trip, I recall fond memories of enjoyment and fun, but I would never say we were happy campers. Perhaps we should change the phrase. Any suggestions? Happy home stayers, maybe?
Have a cool summer and happy camping!

Bugs only in June?

6/1/2013

Today I want to talk about the June bug. These horrible things are scheduled to arrive in June, hence the name. However year after year, I feel we have been robbed of our June bug free May. I have already seen these little suckers flying around my yard, dive bombing my kids and attempting to race me into my house.
I believe we need to start a petition. They should not be allowed to show their faces until June 1st. I know that means we are giving them permission to be on our property, but I believe we need to begin small before obtaining a restraining order for the entire species. I have managed to create an example of a few of them, though. There are several dead carcases littering my driveway at the moment. Let the petitioning begin!
Have a wonderful, June bug free summer!

Waiter, that's what I would call it

5/1/2013

I cannot even begin to count the number of times I have eaten at a restaurant and been served by a waiter or waitress. After my many years of enjoying above mentioned outings, I have to say: a good waiter is worth their weight in gold. Is that why they are called waiters? I doubt it, but I have a better theory.
After mentioning a good waiter, I have to bring up the bad one as well. Actually, I believe that is where the name is derived from. 'Wait' How many times have you sat at a table only to wait on the waiter? Is it the food that is the hold up? Do they have to run to the store to buy more product? Are they planting it out back? Perhaps they are waiting for the chicken to lay an egg. The possibilities are endless, but most of the time you hear the waitstaff having a great time in the back while you sit waiting. That is when the tip meters starts ticking. If the waiter is waiting on us, that meter reaches higher limits. However, when you have to wait on your waiter, the ending bill comes out cheaper as the tip drops below a dollar.
Which would you prefer, lower bill or higher service? I choose service every time. Happy Eating!

Feeling Spring-y

4/1/2013

Feeling frisky? Feeling bouncy? Well, it is that time of year again. Spring! I just love the wonderful feeling you get from Spring, but why is it called that?
Although the weather makes me smile, I can't say I have ever jumped around for the season (well, at least not that I would admit to). In addition, federal taxes being due during this time never added an extra bounce to my step.
So, why Spring? I have a few possible explanations. It could be...
1.) A marketing ploy from the makers of the slinky to sell more products
2.) Pertaining to how our Winter-frozen bodies spring forth from their lethargic state to feel the sun before the Summer melts us down
3.) The Internal Revenue Service lying in wait to spring forward and demand tax payments
4.) The perfect time to use your pogo stick
What do you think? Comment below to vote for your favorite.
On another note, thank you all for your wonderful comments on my book cover. Now, what you have been waiting for: announcing the winner. THE WINNER IS... J.D. FAVER!! Congratulations! You will be hearing from me soon.
Have a happy and wonderful Spring!
